"This HUGE triptych painting has been beautifully distressed and washed with countless layers of earthy 'woodsy' hues contrasted with a cool palette of blue gem and Turquoise accents. The surface has been richly textured...GORGEOUS...perfect for a huge wall that needs a STUNNING centerpiece!"

Mone' Musel:Mayan SunSpell

I decided to begin my introduction to this artist by posting the first of several paintings I personally connect with. Mone' has made it clear that I should just pick the paintings I like;I had one request that I could not do myself , however; And that is a picture of this artist herself. I then realized she is simply shy, and though she creates these large enigmatic paintings, she is quite private.I can understand this very much, and will do my best to respect her privacy. However, I also believe in this artist and her talents, and that alone deserves what I aim to do this week:
Title: MayanSunSpell
Size: 30" x 30" x1.5"
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Price: Sold
Year: Mone' Musel ©2008

This painting I just love for several reasons. The colors are seductively inviting and warm. The quality of the substrate (canvas) itself is wonderfully evident; with the dark tones around the entire piece continuing around all four sides is not only so that it can be hung without framing, it actually frames and centers the entire painting with the dark color. With a vital simplicity reminiscent of Rothko's late works, it is the thick application and layers of paint that add texture, depth, and a unique duality: a dark and light mood exist simultaneously. "Complexity in the Abstract."

*Note: Though this piece is sold, she offers high quality re-productions (Giclees) of many of her works. The title of this post is a direct link to this featured painting on her website. Simply click on the title and you will go straight there.

The last finning of the whales

This is the painting that was, "the first painting of the year." Now completely re-done, with many layers and applications...I will have much more to add to the description of this piece in terms of the process as "distance always lends some perspective"- of which at this time I have very little...
It is 24"x30" with 7/8" depth canvas. It is Back stapled and all four sides are painted. I am eager to return to my regular cycle of posting-of which I have been unusually estranged from.
However, this week is a busy one, and I will be writing with updates as the days continue.

This month featured Artist: Mone' Musel

This month I have the pleasure of doing a post and interview on an artist that is from Austin, TX.
Her name is Mone' Musel, and she creates large textured abstract paintings that are 100% original, incredibly unique, and, in my opinion, deeply inspiring. I have followed her work after discovering her on Yessy, where I too have my gallery. I will announce the date of the post in the coming weeks, so be sure to bookmark this one. An artist of this caliber, who is even self taught, is as rare as they are special. I also want to say thank you to Mone' for accepting my request with genuine enthusiasm. This will be January's highlight-and it isn't going to be my art!!
My new works are coming soon.
'Till then,
Happy New Year everybody and stay tuned!!

First painting of New Year

I don't know if this is still a work in progress, but I am thinking it is...
Acrylics on canvas 24"x30"x.75"
The base coat is made up of iridescent pearl, silver (fluid acrylics by Golden) ,and blue, heavy bodied silver, powder blue, white and black. As usual, I did not "mix" my mixture, thus leaving me the ability to make streaks and lines. Lots of dry brushing. I used more fluid acrylic Quinacridone Violet and interference violet for those dramatic purples....I think I might go back to the easel with this one...
