A page from 1908...

Another "Mini" painting, with this one being the first of a series I am starting

using 100 year old pages and pieces from the year "1908."

It all begins with an old Webster's "Pocket" Dictionary, some related photos,

images, and words from an era we likely call "antiquified"-published, documented, or made over one years ago-in the year of 1908.

So, here is the first, on 5"x7" paper, with Golden's fluid acrylics: bronze, golds, Indian Yellow hues,

and gloss medium here and there....

Only 50 dollars (plus shipping)

You may email me

or use PayPaL on the left sidebar.

All artwork ships the day of purchase and is signed front and back!

100% original and certified so (w/ a COA) by EBSQ.

Where to Begin?

Hello all...
I will try and give the short version of where I went for the entire spring of this year.
In the last two weeks of this past January, I begin to feel a weakness I had never felt. Intermittently, I also began feeling short sharp pains in my chest, with chills and fever soon to follow. I went to the emergency room on Saturday, January 31st. I was admitted that night. It is now the second week in May. I have only been out of the hospital a few days.

I stayed in the hospital with a heart infection I had no idea I even had over three months. I come from a family where though we have our ailments, heart problems are rare, until now. I am "infection" free, but I have a heart murmur that requires medication.

I am making a cautious but hopeful recovery.

Without supplies for creativity (and to weak to use them if I had had them), as well as no Internet access, I got to know time, even just the clock on the wall, very very well.....

Thank God for friends and family-I cannot say it enough....

So, I have not abandoned "the Colorspeaker!" I will have to do a bit of connecting-I was in the middle of Ms. Mone Musel as the guest artist for January (yes, last Jan.) when I got sick.
My apologies to you, Mone.

As far as what is next, I will drop by fellow artist and blogger Casey Klahn at his blog
The Colorist to start!!

I will be back soon.
Thanks to everyone.

Apache Whispers

This is another favorite of mine-and I think the description Mone' gives is a good as it gets; so here, in her own words, is the illustrative version as well as the names of the colors used in the creation of this piece...Enjoy!!

"This HUGE triptych painting has been beautifully distressed and washed with countless layers of earthy 'woodsy' hues contrasted with a cool palette of blue gem and Turquoise accents. The surface has been richly textured...GORGEOUS...perfect for a huge wall that needs a STUNNING centerpiece!"

Mone' Musel:Mayan SunSpell

I decided to begin my introduction to this artist by posting the first of several paintings I personally connect with. Mone' has made it clear that I should just pick the paintings I like;I had one request that I could not do myself , however; And that is a picture of this artist herself. I then realized she is simply shy, and though she creates these large enigmatic paintings, she is quite private.I can understand this very much, and will do my best to respect her privacy. However, I also believe in this artist and her talents, and that alone deserves what I aim to do this week:

Title: MayanSunSpell
Size: 30" x 30" x1.5"
Medium: Acrylic on canvas
Price: Sold
Year: Mone' Musel ©2008

This painting I just love for several reasons. The colors are seductively inviting and warm. The quality of the substrate (canvas) itself is wonderfully evident; with the dark tones around the entire piece continuing around all four sides is not only so that it can be hung without framing, it actually frames and centers the entire painting with the dark color. With a vital simplicity reminiscent of Rothko's late works, it is the thick application and layers of paint that add texture, depth, and a unique duality: a dark and light mood exist simultaneously. "Complexity in the Abstract."

*Note: Though this piece is sold, she offers high quality re-productions (Giclees) of many of her works. The title of this post is a direct link to this featured painting on her website. Simply click on the title and you will go straight there.

The last finning of the whales

This is the painting that was, "the first painting of the year." Now completely re-done, with many layers and applications...I will have much more to add to the description of this piece in terms of the process as "distance always lends some perspective"- of which at this time I have very little...
It is 24"x30" with 7/8" depth canvas. It is Back stapled and all four sides are painted. I am eager to return to my regular cycle of posting-of which I have been unusually estranged from.
However, this week is a busy one, and I will be writing with updates as the days continue.

This month featured Artist: Mone' Musel

This month I have the pleasure of doing a post and interview on an artist that is from Austin, TX.
Her name is Mone' Musel, and she creates large textured abstract paintings that are 100% original, incredibly unique, and, in my opinion, deeply inspiring. I have followed her work after discovering her on Yessy, where I too have my gallery. I will announce the date of the post in the coming weeks, so be sure to bookmark this one. An artist of this caliber, who is even self taught, is as rare as they are special. I also want to say thank you to Mone' for accepting my request with genuine enthusiasm. This will be January's highlight-and it isn't going to be my art!!
My new works are coming soon.
'Till then,
Happy New Year everybody and stay tuned!!

First painting of New Year

I don't know if this is still a work in progress, but I am thinking it is...
Acrylics on canvas 24"x30"x.75"
The base coat is made up of iridescent pearl, silver (fluid acrylics by Golden) ,and blue, heavy bodied silver, powder blue, white and black. As usual, I did not "mix" my mixture, thus leaving me the ability to make streaks and lines. Lots of dry brushing. I used more fluid acrylic Quinacridone Violet and interference violet for those dramatic purples....I think I might go back to the easel with this one...

Tornado in box

Acrylic paint and mediums on 16"x20" back stapled canvas.
Antique gold, gold, umber, Golden's fluid acrylic Azo gold, fluid Nickel Azo yellow, and fluid iridescent gold made a base, unmixed, and full of streaks to let dry. This is an abstract painting in what I would call its most rudimentary form. No forethought, no planning- i painted completely unstructured. I later returned to it and added some pale olive with just a touch of turquoise, golds, and interference green. The black textured "string gel," intertwined with a copper colored gel medium, has me still passing by it as I work on other paintings, pausing with the thought-Is this done? Or in need of a total makeover??
Hmmmm....

Labyrinth

This is the final piece in "Textural Abstracts" Series.
It is on heavy, quality paper 18"x24." Gesso on both sides and left to dry.
Then i sanded the side I would paint. The first layer was gold, Yellow Ochre, Buff white, interference Gold, Iridescent pearl.
I left a heavy layer of those acrylic colors, and let it dry. I lightly sanded the entire piece, before I taped off the sections I would paint. A light dry brush application of Burnt Umber , followed by Crimson, pale olive green, always sanding after applying, so as to sand it slightly wet.
I added a string gel medium with black acrylic and fluid interference green to texture and detail the edges. Celtic symbols are throughout the painting, glazes under them and then cover them....
Finished with a UV protective gloss varnish.
COA from EBSQ.

Language of Time

This is a painting on 300lb heavy, quality paper-22"x30".
After applying
Gesso on both sides, I laid a base coat of Umber, crimson, & Golden's fluid interference green- and then sanded it while still slightly wet.
After letting it dry, I applied different colors, a string gel medium (you can actually pour on -consistency is like honey) and then an acrylic glaze. Some steps I repeated. This may still be a work in progress...
